Sweetgrass (Hierchloe Odorata)
Also known as "Holy Grass" by Native Americans, some tribes say it was the first grass to cover Mother Earth. Many people associate it as a sacred, cleansing herb to be burned during ceremonies. It has a strong vanilla like scent that lingers for years, and externally is useful for soothing chapped or irritated skin. It prefers cool, moist conditions to grow thickest, but still spreads easily in a wide variety of soils and conditions. It is the main herbal ingredient in "Sweetgrass Prairie" soap.
